Old Stories

You remember all of the stories right? The stories about how Jesus walked on water, fed the thousands, brought the dead back to life, healed the blind and the sick. There’s countless stories about Jesus performing miracles time and time again. If we’re being completely honest though, we all just assume they’re only stories right? Just some made up thing that some guy wrote thousands of years ago in order to get his kids to listen to him, or at least that’s what we like to tell ourselves.

The truth is far from the lie that we tell ourselves. The truth is that everything written in The Bible is one hundred percent true and has even been fact checked not just within The Bible itself, but also tons of historical documents as well! The Bible itself references other parts of The Bible anywhere from over 64,000 to up to an astounding 340,000 times! A lot of these are things written by authors in the Bible that had no idea other things were going on or had even been recorded!

Paul even writes in 2 Timothy 3:16, “16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness.” Then in the very beginning of the gospel of John, John himself writes, “1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John is telling us here that Jesus is the Word of God and that He was there from the very beginning! So if we just put those two verses together, we can come to the conclusion that not only is everything in The Bible good and from God, but that everything Jesus said and did is also God speaking to us!

If we take that thought that everything Jesus has said and did is from God, a lot of those stories become even crazier! One of my favorite things Jesus says comes in Mark 8:14-21 (go read it!) after He twice feeds thousands of people with just a few loaves of bread. The disciples start freaking out because they only brought a single loaf for themselves. Jesus gets on them because at the time He’s teaching, but then He also reminds them of the two times He fed thousands of people and had extra baskets of bread left over!

Just like the disciples, we are very quick to forget the miracles that Jesus shows us in our own lives. So how can we even believe the miracles that Jesus performed when we don’t see the ones right in front of us! Jesus is constantly working through us to improve our lives and to perform miracles! Sometimes they may seem small, but even the smallest of prayers answered is proof that God loves us and wants to improve our lives!
