If you are anything like me, you’ve probably either pretended or hoped to be an adventurer or treasure hunter trying to find an amazing treasure. A treasure that would completely change your life! All of the gold and artifacts would be worth so much more than you could fathom and would lead to you being happy, fulfilled, and lead to a better life. And once again, if you’re like me, then you probably would use all of that treasure to make the lives of the people you care about better too! It wouldn’t be right to just keep all of that to yourself.
Not to sound cliche, but we do have access to a treasure just like this. The Gospel is just like that treasure trove, it’s far too amazing to keep it hidden. And, unlike a real treasure trove, this one will never run out and can be shared with the entire world!
Sharing The Gospel can feel pretty intimidating, especially at your age. There’s all sorts of questions that I remember going through my mind all those decades ago when I was your guys’ age. What will people think? What if I don’t have the right answers? Well here’s the good news about the good news: God doesn’t expect you to be perfect. He just wants you to be willing. You have the Holy Spirit to give you courage, wisdom, and even the words to speak to share your faith.
Just think about how even Jesus shared His message. He told stories, spent time with people, and loved people genuinely. While sharing the gospel does in fact include actually telling people, a big part is also how you interact with them. It won’t always be standing on a stage or getting in a deep theological debate. It can be telling them the truth, telling them your testimony, and just being there to help and answer questions. It’s also alright to tell them you don’t know the answer to a question and to get back to them!
Can it be scary to share your testimony and talk about The Gospel? Yes, it can be! But Jesus tells us in Acts 1:8 that we are given The Holy Spirit in order to know what to do and say. We just have to follow Him and be obedient to where He leads us. Your testimony is a great way to tell people the story of how you went from a sinner destined for Hell, to a saint who’s been saved through Jesus dying and God’s grace!
Questions:
Read Acts 1:8, what does this verse tell us about sharing the gospel?
How does knowing that you will receive power from the Holy Spirit to tell the gospel make you feel?
Weekly Challenge:
- Take your testimony and choose 3 points in it that you think are the most impactful. Write those 3 down and why you picked them to be part of you tell the gospel.
- Find someone you’ve not told the gospel before and have a conversation with them! Don’t just make it a random hallway talk for a couple of minutes, try to actually talk to them and have a conversation.
- Write down how the conversation went and who it was with, then share that with the group!
