At one point in all of our lives we’ve all heard someone say, “There’s no such thing as a dumb question.” The irony of this is that typically immediately following that statement, someone asks a question on purpose that somehow finds a way to prove the saying wrong! Then this is followed by a round of laughter and everyone looking around to see who all is laughing.
We’ve trained ourselves to not say or ask certain things because we either think it’s a “dumb question” or something we’re afraid will be taken the wrong way. When it comes to following Jesus, there’s a lot of questions to be asked! Even Paul (who wrote a majority of the New Testament) referred to preaching about Jesus as the “mystery of the gospel.” He wrote about half of the New Testament, and even he had times he didn’t fully understand it! The scribes and the Pharisees spent their entire lives studying scripture and God’s word, and they still got stuff wrong!
God’s knowledge and wisdom is so massive we can’t ever possibly understand it! He knows how to create literally everything and everyone! He knows the answer to everything, and knows everything about everyone and everything! I still struggle to get my ratio of cereal to milk just right, so I can’t imagine trying to create life and the entire world! Everything that God has ever done, He’s done despite the fact that there have always been people who don’t believe or want to follow Him. No matter what we do or don’t do God will always be able to make what He wants to happen, happen!
God is also so extremely powerful that we can’t even understand it! We will always have questions about God, His power, His knowledge and so much more. God wants us to be curious about Him! He wants us to ask questions and discover more! Not only that, but if God truly is as powerful as we say He is then He can definitely handle our questions about Him! The more questions that we allow to be between us and Him, the harder it is for us to follow! We’re a lot closer to our best friends than we are to a random stranger. We know them, have asked questions about them, and sought out information about them!
Never be afraid to ask a question about God, The Bible, Christianity, or anything to do with your faith. God can handle your questions and wants us to be closer to Him! So ask away! Go learn and discover! He’s waiting for you!
Read the following verses and write below what you think they say about the deepness of God and our curiosity!
- Colossians 1:26
- Ephesians 6:19
- Proverbs 25:2
Weekly Challenge:
Write down 3 questions you have about God, The Bible, Christianity, or your faith that you’ve either been afraid to ask or thought that it was a “dumb question.” Then find an adult that you trust and ask them to sit down and have a conversation about your questions! Write down who you talked to and how the conversation went!
