Ask, Ask, Ask Again

At one point in all of our lives we’ve all heard someone say, “There’s no such thing as a dumb question.” The irony of this is that typically immediately following that statement, someone asks a question on purpose that somehow finds a way to prove the saying wrong! Then this is followed by a round of laughter and everyone looking around to see who all is laughing.

We’ve trained ourselves to not say or ask certain things because we either think it’s a “dumb question” or something we’re afraid will be taken the wrong way. When it comes to following Jesus, there’s a lot of questions to be asked! Even Paul (who wrote a majority of the New Testament) referred to preaching about Jesus as the “mystery of the gospel.” He wrote about half of the New Testament, and even he had times he didn’t fully understand it! The scribes and the Pharisees spent their entire lives studying scripture and God’s word, and they still got stuff wrong!

God’s knowledge and wisdom is so massive we can’t ever possibly understand it! He knows how to create literally everything and everyone! He knows the answer to everything, and knows everything about everyone and everything! I still struggle to get my ratio of cereal to milk just right, so I can’t imagine trying to create life and the entire world! Everything that God has ever done, He’s done despite the fact that there have always been people who don’t believe or want to follow Him. No matter what we do or don’t do God will always be able to make what He wants to happen, happen!

God is also so extremely powerful that we can’t even understand it! We will always have questions about God, His power, His knowledge and so much more. God wants us to be curious about Him! He wants us to ask questions and discover more! Not only that, but if God truly is as powerful as we say He is then He can definitely handle our questions about Him! The more questions that we allow to be between us and Him, the harder it is for us to follow! We’re a lot closer to our best friends than we are to a random stranger. We know them, have asked questions about them, and sought out information about them!

Never be afraid to ask a question about God, The Bible, Christianity, or anything to do with your faith. God can handle your questions and wants us to be closer to Him! So ask away! Go learn and discover! He’s waiting for you!

Read the following verses and write below what you think they say about the deepness of God and our curiosity!

  • Colossians 1:26
  • Ephesians 6:19
  • Proverbs 25:2

Weekly Challenge:

Write down 3 questions you have about God, The Bible, Christianity, or your faith that you’ve either been afraid to ask or thought that it was a “dumb question.” Then find an adult that you trust and ask them to sit down and have a conversation about your questions! Write down who you talked to and how the conversation went!

  1. I think God is very deep in the way that he wants us to be curious and ask questions. God wants us to be curious and to dig into his word deeper. The way that you can read a passage 8 different times and get something different out of it each time, is one way God allows us to get deeper and deeper into his word. However, he does withhold things from us as Christians too. Not everything is to be known by us because if it was, we would be God. I think God wants us to be curious and ask questions in order to grow as a Christian and to grow closer to him as well. The more we ask questions and find out what God says about them, the closer we become to God and the stronger we become as a Christian.

    Colossians 1:26

The mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the saints.

It tells us that God makes us curious about different things and makes us wait u til we are and he thinks that we are ready to hear about them!

    Ephesians 6:19

Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel.

It tells us that we should pray for him so that he can open up the gospel for us to understand and learn about!

    Proverbs 25:2

It is the glory of God to conceal the matter; to search out a matter is the glory of Kings

It is Gods job to protect us from the problem but it is our duty to search the problem and to solve it with God

These verses all talk about how God hides things from us until he thinks we are ready to hear them and to work through them!

    Colossians 1:26

To me, this verse is indicating how Paul was grateful to have the role of a minister. He explains in a few verses above how he has rejoiced to make God’s Word “fully known”. Once it hits 1:26, Paul claims how God’s word was once a mystery, and is now spread to the saints through him into the Bible. I think this shows humanity’s curiosity by Paul’s wording in this verse; and it shows God’s deepness by his emotion in this verse.

    Ephesians 6:19

I think this verse is just simply stating how easy it is to help spread God’s word- even by praying. He wants us to pray for him that he will use the correct words and will spread out the gospel.

    Proverbs 25:2

I think this means that it is under God’s hands to make decisions and shut out any situations, and that it is our job to pray to Him about it and “seek the matter”.
